Once part of the great Monon Railroad's route from Louisville to Chicago or Michigan City, the line was downgraded under CSX ownership and eventually abandoned. Harrodsburg Station and water tower was immediately next to bridge. All gone today.

The stream flowing under this bridge is called Clear Creek. Flowing from Bloomington downstream towards Harrodsburg and into Salt Creek below the Monroe Dam there are several (aprox. a half-dozen)abandoned railroad bridges in this stretch. Hopefully, I will canoe this in the springtime and have a report on all of them in the near future. Monroe County has a "boatload' of abandoned and still standing railroad bridges, in part due to the many limestone quarries scattered throughout the rugged and hilly terrain.
