Based on picture #4 it doesn't look like there was room for a diagonal to fit, which might suggest Tony's idea is accurate. This would be very rare however.

Normally 3-panel Bedstead's have a double-diagonal or "X" center panel, but it is possible that it was designed without one. Covered bridges were sometimes designed with an empty center panel.

This bridge was out of the blue accidental find on somebodies driveway. But anyways the bridge is missing the middle panel cords, I believe that is what we call them. Its a rare bedstead and there is no info on sharrd. I'm saying relocated.
