Description 

Built at a cost of $25,000. Wooden deck was replaced in 1940 and 1959; miscellaneous other repairs were made also. In 1968 a metal grid deck was installed as an effort to prevent the multiple car accidents on the bridge that were blamed on the condition of the wooden deck. Major repairs in 1978. Replaced by a modern bridge in 1982.

I vaguely remember this bridge, as my grandparents lived on 300N between old 31 and 25. We called it the green bridge. Nice to see photos of it.

I'm glad you enjoy gleaning these great articles and photos that add some much to this site! I've never had much of a knack for it!

I believe this was an early Indiana Highway Department design, and I would say it's an early Parker truss that has been beefed up with some sub-divided panels. It was still old enough that they didn't think about making it a 2-lane span!
