Description
The piers for the Meredosia bridge were built in 1863. The swing span
was fabricated in 1879, with the approach spans being older than that
(unknown date). Until the 1930's, the swing span was hand-powered; it
could open for river traffic in six minutes, if the wind was right.
The bridge was removed around 1959, when the new lift bridge down at
Valley City was put into operation.
