And here I was all stoked that I have the week between Christmas and New Years off, planning to go photograph a major bridge in western Iowa nobody has touched yet. Way to ruin a guy's vacation lol.
This bridge is located on a RR line that ran from Gowrie to Sibley. It came up through Manson, Pocahontas, Laurens Leverett, Maclay, Rossie, Royal, Moneta, Hartley, Plesis, Melvin,Cloverdale, and then Sibley. It was built in 1900, the builder may have been called the Gowrie & Northwestern Railroad or Railway. They did not operate it, it was built for the Rock Island. It was owned by the CRI&P until it went bankrupt in 1980 it was taken over by the C&NW and operated by them until they were bought by the Union Pacific in 1995. The UP abandoned it in 1999 or so. The track has been removed.
Day off without finals and a cold blue sky day means I'm gonna go out Dylan :)
Good part is, now I can help you out a bit. This one is easy if you come from the west. Just wear orange so you don't get shot at. Fortunately, the river is frozen solid already, so you should be able to walk on that.
There may be a stone arch (or two) just west of here?
