Hartford Bridge (Temporary)
Description
After fire destroyed the covered bridge at this location in 1895, a more permanent stone bridge was planned. In the interim, the Berlin Iron Bridge Co. erected a through truss bridge slightly upstream of the old bridge piers. A temporary ferry service was instituted 1895-96 while the truss bridge was being built. The Berlin Co. guaranteed its bridge for a term of five years.
