Curb Columns

View Exhibit map

Curb columns are supports, typically steel, placed between the edge of a roadway and the sidewalk. The use of short stringer spans over sidewalks reduced the length of the roadway span, providing a cost savings over a longer clear span over both the roadway and the sidewalk. Curb columns are commonly found on early-20th century railroad overpasses.
