Colonial Parkway

View Exhibit map

The Colonial National Historical Parkway is a 23-mile scenic parkway stretching from the York River at Yorktown VA to the James River at Jamestown VA. It was built between 1930 and 1957 as an integral part of Colonial National Historical Park, connecting Yorktown Battlefield, Colonial Williamsburg, and Historic Jamestown.

As a controlled-access parkway with most intersections by grade-separated interchanges, it involves a number of bridges and one tunnel. They are very similar looking closed-spandrel concrete arch overpass bridges faced with colonial-style dark red brick. They feature molded shape colonial style red brick railings. Some of them also feature a separate walkway for pedestrians on the underneath roadway. The road is carried in a tunnel under Colonial Williamsburg, with the tunnel portals faced with colonial brickwork.
