Fairview Lift Bridge (McKenzie County, North Dakota)
Built 1913 for Great Northern RR; was only lifted once, upon completion in 1913; carried both rail and vehicular traffic until 1956; rail traffic ceased in 1986; listed on National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Great Northern Railway Old Cascade Tunnel (King County, Washington)
The Original Cascade Tunnel was finished in 1900 and was built to replace a series of 8 switchbacks used to get over the mountains. Deadliest avalanche in US history occurred March 1, 1910 at Wellington (western portal). 96 people killed.
