Glenn S. Paxson

View Exhibit map

Glenn Stewart Paxson (1893-1973) was the Oregon State Bridge Engineer from 1936 until 1955. During the tenure of Paxson the highway system focus shifted from a two lane route system to the multi-lane interstate system known today.

Paxson inherited the position of State Bridge Engineer from Conde McCullough and oversaw the construction of the five large coastal bridges designed under McCullough. Under Paxson, the Oregon State Highway Department also built some of the last depression era bridges of aesthetic grace and also some of the modern structures on the Interstate System.
