Ditto - Thats's a Howe.
Did it have a decade long service life, or was it built sometime in the 60's ?
It was not an uncommon thing for a through truss to sit unhoused or unboxed for some years. What was the habit of this particular RR? Did they build other examples?
I agree with Matt, that is a stout exposed timber double intersecting Howe through truss.
Very interesting...almost appears to be a double-intersection Howe truss. Any other ideas out there?
Assistance requested on truss design description.
The image posted is actually the second crossing of the Truckee River (which was much closer to the state line), specifically (39° 26.534'N, 120° 0.657'W). The bridge at the crossing indicated by the map on this webpage was the first crossing and it was a long (18-panel) single span Howe Through Truss.
