This bridge can be seen in a B movie from 1937 called "Assassins of Youth" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p60xcX0TKeE&feature=related (drag the cursor to 2:22) The house that is in the film is gone as you well see. There is a light blue house in it's place now. Love seeing old clips of our fair city!
Looking at one of these Vierendeel trusses reveals a lot of similarities to a plate girder. I would be interested in finding out more about them.
I watched the clip like you said and there it was....just a glimpse. Pretty neat. Totally unbelievable the way they've kept it preserved all these years. Most bridges of that age haven't faired nearly as well. They must be doing something right in LA. Good for them.
