This looks like a combination of correct and incorrect info for the old railroad bridge.

By the way, here is where the old vertical lift currently is now:

I've never heard of this bridge. The only vertical lift we had was put on the railroad bridge in the 1960s to replace a swing span. The old railroad bridge http://bridgehunter.com/al/lauderdale/old-railroad/ was a double decker that had a railroad on top and vehicular traffic on the bottom. The vehicular traffic was stopped after the new cantilevered truss O'Neal Bridge was built in 1939. http://bridgehunter.com/al/colbert/1901/
