Good news for the Blount County, AL, covered bridges. They got a federal grant to be renovated and opened to vehicular traffic again. Out of the 3 remaining covered bridges in this county, one is the highest covered bridge over a US waterway(Horton-Mill Covered Bridge) and one is currently the longest covered bridge in Alabama at 330ft(Swann Covered Bridge). All 3 are posted to the National Register of Historic Places. Here's the article:

I visited this and the Nectar Bridge back in the early 80's before the latter was destroyed by arson in a disgruntled act of foolishness.
These spans are an important part of Alabama history that deserves to be retained.
This bridge is closed and has been for some time. Myself and a group from Blount County, Alabama are working to have this bridge and the other two bridges in Blount County repaired and reopened. Please visit on facebook The Covered Bridges of Blount County Alabama to review our progess.

This bridge is so beautiful that I dont think anyone one destroy it, and if they do may God have mercy on their soul.
